Ich hatte letzte Woche schon über das außergewöhnliche Engagement von Web2.0-Enthusiasten und Tech-Aktivisten berichtet, die versuchen mit technischen Innovationen den Menschen in Haiti in der Krise nach dem Erdbeben zu helfen. Am Wochenende des 23. und 24 Januar fanden in mehreren Städten der USA und anderer Länder sogenannte “Crisis Camps” statt. Im Wiki der Seite Crisis Commons gibt es unter anderem eine Anleitung mit “Einfachen Sachen die jeder machen kann“. Jeder kann helfen, nächstes Wochenende geht es weiter. Last week, camps were held in Washington DC, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Denver, Brooklyn, and London. Volunteers worked on improving OpenStreetMap-based tools, create Twitter conversation tracking software, mobiles apps, and more. They also launched We Have, We Need, a tool that bring together relief organizations in need of supplies with willing donors. Organizations and donors can connect using the tool to get telecommunications equipment, medical supplies, food, and other items to the people that need them most.
This week, with twice the number of camps being held in cities around the world, the Crisis Camp wiki is overflowing with ambitious project ideas, from an application to facilitate the telling of survivor stories that was requested by the Haitian people, to a mobile application requested by the World Bank to simplify disaster assessment.
