Projects
This part of the website is dedicated to the Open Data Network working groups and as a platform to present their projects. So long we have some interesting proposals. Everybody who has a specific project-proposal can and should work with us here and find people who join him or her.
The following is true for all projects: If you are interested in a certain topic you are more than welcome to join us and work with us!
Currently, we are working on the following projects:
Opendata Directory:
Develop an online catalog (like the yellow pages register) for all government, administration and science data and databases in Germany which are freely available. The Open Data Directory Germany is register for open data sets in Germany. The register functions like the “yellow pages” for open data sets. Considered as Open Data are datesets which qualify as Public Domain or use other Licenses that comply with certain minimum requirements to openness. As a criteria for openness we consider the following definition of Open Knowledge. We see openness in respect to access, lisences, formats and APIs.
We use CKAN, which was developed by the Open Knowledge Foundation. We initiated a cooperation between the Open Data Network and the Open Knowledge Foundation.: http://wiki.okfn.org/de and http://wiki.okfn.org/ckan/de.
Democracy-APIs:
Democracy-APIs are open, machine-readable interfaces for data from politics and administration. The first goal of this working group is to use and document existing APIs. Some authorities today publish their data via their own APIs, others do not.
Furthermore the group works on several projects in which Data from public administrations is aggregated (crawling / scraping) and is than put to further use.
Apps4Democracy:
“Apps for Democracy” is a competition which aims to create innovative internet-apps to open up government and administration for citizen participation. The Apps4Democracy competition is divided into two stages: the competition of ideas and the competition of the best apps.
In the first stage we want to create a dialogue between citizens, administrations and politics. On the second stage the person who creates the most innovative App which delivers the biggest benefit for citizens will be rewarded with honor and prize-money.
This benefit will be assessed according to the following criteria: openness, transparency, citizen friendliness, accountability, efficiency, participation and dialog.
Open Data Blog:
The Open Data Blog needs people who commit to making this blog better than it is today. Everybody who is interested is invited to work with us. We are especially excited if somebody wants to write an op-ed or if people engage in writing for the blog on a regular basis. Furthermore we are looking for people who create a nice Layout for this Blog.
Further projects / working groups:
If you want to engage in projects which are note mentioned above and are looking for fellows, please contact our Mailinglist and present your idea. Workings groups can use our Wiki for their work. If possible, you should work in the projects you propose and not create wish lists “something I would like other people to do for me”.
